#6: The Generalization Effect.

A common question about the table top and table legs metaphor goes like this.

“I have hundreds or thousands of specific events (table legs) underlying my issue (table top). Must I do The Personal Peace Procedure for each one before I get relief?”

The answer is no and that is because of an Optimal EFT feature we call The Generalization Effect.

Commonality:

Often the various table legs have some common themes among them so that removing a few legs has an effect on the remaining ones. For example, many of our issues may involve a parent, or a school, or a particular experience such as domestic abuse or war. Because of this commonality, and even though an issue may have hundreds or thousands of table legs, we can often remove a few of them with our process and then watch as the Generalization Effect collapses the whole Table Top.

Successful:

I have done this successfully for years. I first used it with EFT Tapping and found that I could collapse a long list of related specific events after bringing relief to somewhere between five and twenty of them. By contrast, The Unseen Therapist is much more efficient in this regard. Using Her, we usually only need one to five specific events.

 Questions and Exercises

1. Why does The Generalization Effect often allow us to collapse thousands of related specific events by only addressing a few?

2. Why do you think The Generalization Effect is more efficient with The Unseen Therapist than with EFT Tapping?

3. Practice this on yourself or someone else. Get a long list of specific events on a defined global issue (e.g. war traumas, childhood abuse, fear of snakes, etc.) and use The Personal Peace Procedure on them. After collapsing a few, check out the intensity of those remaining specific events. Chances are, the intensities on the rest will be little or nothing.
