Menstrual periods are sometimes painful and the origin of that pain isn't always physical. This is clearly demonstrated by Jean Faithful from the UK.

I was staying with a friend who is 47 years old.  Shortly after she woke up, she told me she had just started her monthly period and was in pain.  She said her normal pattern was that, by lunchtime, she would take a painkiller and go to bed until the next morning.

I suggested we try EFT.  We had already successfully used EFT for an earlier problem so she was happy to give it a go, but didn’t hold out too much hope as she had always “suffered with her periods.”  I asked her to be aware of anything that floated into her mind as we started tapping.

Even though I don’t hold out much hope, I choose to be open to the fact that EFT might help with my suffering …this tension in my lower back … this dragging pain in my tummy …this fuzziness in my head.

She thought that it might have lessened, but was holding herself so tense it was difficult to tell.  During this tapping she remembered the day of her first period.  She was only 10 at the time and had run home from school, frightened.  Her grandmother was at home, and told her that this was because she was a woman, she had “the curse” and would “suffer it every month for the rest of her life.”  She was given sanitary protection and it was never mentioned again.

Off I went!  I didn’t do a setup and I used the short version of tapping, with the following phrases as I went around the points.

Even though I always suffer with my periods because Grandma told me I would, I choose to be delightfully surprised at how easily this belief collapses Even though Grandma told me I was cursed, I forgive her Even though Grandma told me I would always suffer with my periods… I was only a child and I was frightened … As a child I took Grandma’s words literally … as a woman I understand it was just an expression she used I loved my Grandma and I know she loved me

At this point a memory of a wonderful day she had spent with her Grandma when she was about 9 or 10 popped into her head and she said she ‘felt’ her Grandma’s love.

I know my Grandma didn’t mean for me to suffer because of her words I forgive my Grandma; she didn’t understand the power of her words I forgive myself for believing her, I was only 10 and I was scared … I forgive myself for holding on to this belief … I choose to release this belief … I choose to leave this dark place behind As a woman, I choose to celebrate my periods … They are a blessing, not a curse Without my periods I would not have become a mother … Without my periods I would not know the love of my children … I thank my body for being fertile … I give my body permission to experience pain-free periods.

The whole session took about 20 minutes, during which time she sighed often and heavily -- a marvelous sign of release.  She said she felt lighter in both senses of the word.  Throughout the day she was ‘aware’ of her period, but had none of her usual symptoms, took no painkillers and did not go to bed.  This had never happened before in more than 35 years!! 

The following month I received a phone call to say that her period had arrived without any of the usual early warning signs and none of the darkness or pain.  This was 6 months ago.  I phoned her today and she is still experiencing pain-free periods.
