Hi Everyone,

Read how Martha Stewart taps surrogately for her crying grand daughter (Natalie) at 3am with modest results. Then she says, "I realized that I really needed to be speaking as if I was Natalie." and, after that the result was complete. A good lesson here.

Dear Gary,

Currently my son and his wife and two little granddaughters are temporarily living with us in our home.  At about 2:30 am, Natalie, who just turned two, woke up crying.  I heard her wail for Daddy and then for Mommy.  Her crying woke me up and I was unable to go back to sleep so I finally got up at 3 am, and came downstairs to do some reading. 

I could hear her fuss on and off, and knew something was going on in her body that was distressing her (teething?  sore throat? ear infection?).  While I was reading some of your email newsletters I read two stories of calming babies down when distressed.

I decided then to do some surrogate tapping for Natalie so she could return to sleep (and so her parents could return to sleep too!).  At first I was tapping, 'Even though Natalie is distressed, even though Natalie doesn't feel well', etc.  She settled some, but the distressed cry came back a few minutes later.  As I continued my reading of success stories for children, I realized that I really needed to be speaking as if I was Natalie.  So I did several more rounds of tapping,

Even though I am upset, even though I can't really tell Mommy and Daddy what is bothering me, Even though my body hurts, I am still a great little girl'.

Even though I am a bit distressed, I can fall asleep.

I felt energy shift within me as I finished, and listened for the crying and it has stopped.  She had been fussing on and off for 2 hours and suddenly the house was silent!  No noise at all.  I am confident that the tapping relieved something within her as she settled down so quickly at that point.  She has slept soundly for the rest of the night.  As it turned out, she had some severe cold sores in her mouth which the Doctor discovered when Mom took her in for checkup.  In spite of them she slept soundly through the night for the following several nights.
