EFT with a Vietnam nurse - a quality use of specific events

Hi Everyone,

We owe a big thank you to Ingrid Dinter for her quality work with a badly compromised client. Ingrid displays many improvements, including this one, "After that, "Ann" finally released the horrific memory and the nightmares she had had about this didn't return."

Hugs, Gary

"Ann" a Vietnam Nurse had seen more than most people will ever be able to imagine. It was a miracle that we could work with EFT in the first place, as her body was so sensitive that she couldn't stand tapping on any part of it without getting violently nauseous. Even having somebody surrogate tap for her caused this nausea, so that was not an option for her.

Her body had been abused in so many ways, and carried so many memories of all that pain, that she got triggered by everything that could come near to her. She couldn't wear socks or shoes, couldn't stand physical touch, etc. Her girlfriend contacted me in complete desperation, as their life situation became unbearable.

So in the beginning we had to find a way of allowing for her to use EFT. We found out that the only point she was able to tap on were the eyebrow points, so we used them for the first session, alternating between left and right working on safety and fears. Half way through the second session, "Ann" noticed that she could now tap, even the collar bone point, which was impossible for her before.

"Ann's" trauma began in utero and it is a miracle that she is alive today. Three of the horrific war memories we worked with were:

She had rescued some village people, elderly and children, and was treating them in her hospital. Then a Sergeant came in and ordered her to let them go because he felt they needed the space for Americans. The nurse, who was higher ranking than him, refused, at which he pulled his gun and put it on her head, telling her that he was going to kill the villagers one way or the other, her choice was if she was going first.

Realizing the rage he was in, "Ann" knew she had no choice, and rescuing the villagers was completely out of her control. She knew that the only thing she could do was to allow for them to go in peace and with dignity, with no fear or panic, in the tradition of their culture...

So instead of exposing them to the violence of the Sergeant, "Ann" began to very gently pull the IVs out of their arms, allow for the children to gather around the elders for support, and help them with respect and kindness to come together one last time, before they were led outside and shot. "Ann" never got over this, blaming herself for being responsible for this incredible killing. It haunted her in her dreams.

During our EFT session, we tapped on the separate scenes of this unspeakable event, allowing for her to reconnect with those who lost their lives and realizing that the villagers were actually grateful for her. They were present when she had the gun at her head and knew that there was nothing she could do. They didn't blame her but appreciated that she did the best she could.

After that, "Ann" finally released the horrific memory and the nightmares she had had about this didn't return.

Another memory we had to work with was the sound of the helicopters, which now fly over her house, as she lives close to a base. They used to make her panic but, after tapping on them, she noticed that she just noticed them now, but no panic, to agitation.

One of her most powerful memories was when the hospital she was working in was bombarded by friendly fire and collapsed on her. She had been cooking for the wounded to help them heal faster. When she walked down a corridor, she saw two children standing there, and at the same time, she heard the bombardment. She grabbed the children and threw herself over them, protecting them with her body while the hospital roof collapsed on her. She was the only one pulled out alive and had to spend months in the hospital and rehab after that. This memory haunted her in her dreams as well. After EFT, we were able to let go of all the emotional triggers that this memory had for her. She could now talk about this calmly without the emotional upheaval that she had before.

We also worked with her allergic reaction to ice-cream. After tapping on the substance itself and the symptoms it was causing her, I asked her what ice-cream stood for in Vietnam. She then remembered in awe, that Ice-cream and steak were the two things the men were asking for when they were wounded. It stood for comfort and was hard to get. Having ice-cream was very special and deeply connected with the pain and trauma she saw. After realizing this and tapping on it, her physical symptoms subsided.

We also tapped on her hearing impairment, which was caused by scar tissue from too many injuries, and for the first time, she could hear the clicking keys of her computer keyboard. This subsided after a while again, and we need to do more work on it. There were too many things she has heard during war and during her traumatic life, and she felt she was shutting down her hearing as a defense mechanism.

She definitely needs to do more tapping to release the many years of trauma, abuse, fear and pain. But this is a good start!

Love,

Ingrid
